Original: Oblivion enchantment tutorial

Description

This tutorial will attempt to walk you through adding a new item to the world of Oblivion and then demonstrate how to enchant the item.

Construction Set

You will need the TES Construction Set which can be found here.

Download it to some where you can remember, then scan it for viruses and install it.

Assuming that you placed an icon on your desktop.

Create a New Item

Open the Construction Set program and from the menu,

  1. Click File, Data.
  2. Double-click oblivion.esm (Master File) in the data dialog box that appears and make sure it has a checkmark to the left.
  3. Click the OK button.

It takes some time to load depending on your system. When it has loaded you will have three planes (Render Window, Data, Object Window). The Render Window is blank at this time but do not worry. You want to enchant something and it does not matter what it is, it can be anything, but you must be able to get to it.

It is not a good idea to place something in the Arcane University and not have access to the university, unless you decide to finish the Mages Guild quests first. Pick a place that you are familiar with, like a house or somewhere that you know, it can be anywhere as long as you know where in the world of Oblivion you are and where it is going to be.

When you are happy that you know the location of the item that you will place in the world of Oblivion then we can start. As I am an Arch Mage at this time and for all of you budding mages out there we will make a mage robe which will send your mana stats through the roof.

First things first...

  1. Click on and highlight the Object Window and click on items in the left hand plane of the object window.
  2. Click and expand on Clothing.
  3. Click and expand on RobeMageArch.
  4. You will see a list of items in the right plane.
  5. Double click on ArchMageRobe under the Editor ID column.
  6. A Dialog box opens.
  7. Change the ID to something unique I.E. your initials ArchMageRobe With No Spaces
    I.E. TGArchMageRobe.
  8. Next change the items name to your initials mage robe or anything as long as it is unique.
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Create A New Form? Click Yes.

If you look again at the Object Window you will see your new item in the list.

Place the New Item

Now we need to place the new item into the world of Oblivion. To do this we will need to use the Call View Window. As I said earlier, I am the Arch Mage so my quarters are in the Arch Mages Tower, but it can be anywhere.

  1. From the "World Space" dropdown selection, I selected "Interiors".
  2. From here I know that the arch mages quarters are in the Arch mages tower in the Imperial City.
  3. Scroll down the list until you find the place of your choice in the left-hand pane (in my case it is the Imperial City in the Arcane University the Arch Mages quarters). Note: IC = Imperial City.
  4. Double-click on your choice in the left-hand pane and then for a more precise location find something in the right hand pane as a point of reference.
  5. For this tutorial I am going to choose a chest as a reference point to place my new item.
  6. I have chosen a chest in the arch mages quarters and now you can see it in the render widow.
  7. Go back to the object window.
  8. Then click on and drag your new item into the render window then release.

Now you can see your new item is in the world of Oblivion.

Enchant the New Item

If you do not wish to enchant this item, skip the Enchantment section below and go directly to the #Save and Play instructions.

Enchanting The Newly Placed Item.

All that is left to do is to enchant it.

  1. Next go back to object window and scroll down until you get to magic.
  2. Then double-click on magic.
  3. Then click on Enchantment.
  4. In the right-hand pane of the Object Window. Right-click anywhere and choose New.
  5. An Enchantment dialog box will appear showing ID, Type and Effects.
  6. You will have to create a new ID here something like TGRobeofMana it does not matter as long as it is unique and contains No Spaces.
  7. Next you will need to change the Type using the dropdown selection. The options are Apparel, Scroll, Staff and Weapon. In this example, we are going to use apparel.

When creating enchantments inside the game, you are limited in how many enchantments can be placed on an item but not in the Construction Set editor.

  1. In the right-hand pane of the Enchantments dialog box you can see the Effects pane.
  2. Right-click in the Effects area and choose New.
  3. An Effect Item dialog box appears.
  4. For this tutorial I am going to focus on mana for now (but you can choose what ever you like). I chose the following:

    Effect: Fortify Attribute
    Range: Self
    Duration: 0
    Magnitude: 20000
    ActorVal: Intelligence

  5. Click OK to close the Effect Item dialog box.
  6. You can now see your new enchantment in the Effects pane of the Enchantment dialog box.
  7. You can add as many enchantments/effects as you like to any item.
  8. Click OK to close the Enchantment dialog box since we are finished adding enchantments for this example.
  9. Go back to the Object Window and click on MageRobeArch in the left-hand pane.
  10. Now find the new item that you created earlier. In this case it was a tgArchMageRobe.
  11. Double-click it and the dialog box will open.
  12. Find the name of your enchantment in the dropdown selection next to Enchanting.
  13. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Save and Play

From the Construction Set menu,

  1. Click File, Save. (or click the save icon on the toolbar)
  2. Your new mod (.esp plugin) will be saved in Oblivion\'s Data folder. Default location is C:\\Program Files\\Bethesda Softworks\\Oblivion\\Data
  3. Start the Oblivion Launcher.
  4. Click Data Files and place an "X" next to your mod.
  5. Start the game and go find your new item.

I hope this file will help you to create some fantastic new mods.

Have Fun.

Best regards

Tongar.

P.S. You can edit this file and distribute it as you wish and as long as you give some credit to myself for compiling it in the first place.
