I will take you step-by-step and soon you will be gaming like the rest of us. NOTE: These settings are based on windows Vista & Win7. If you are not using Vista or Win7 then ignore steps 2 and 3.

Step 7 is for OBMM-installing, while Step 8 is for manual installation, follow only one!

  1. Install Oblivion to your desired location. Preferably outside your program files folder, so for this tutorial we assume you have installed it to C:\Games.

  2. Once installed, right click the Oblivion.exe either in the Install folder or on your desktop, click properties, navigate to the "Compatibility" tab, and tick the checkbox next to "Run this program as an administrator".

  3. Turn your User Account Control (UAC) off. (Win7: "Start->Control Panel->System and Security->Change User Account Control settings" | Vista: "Start->Control Panel->Security Center->Other Security Settings")
NOTE: Disabling the UAC is not completely necessary. Disabling the UAC cuts off the annoyance of the permission request every time you install or open a program onto your computer. This is 100% optional.
WARNING: BY DISABLING THE UAC, YOU ARE OPENING YOUR COMPUTER UP TO MANY TYPES OF MALWARE AND OTHER ONLINE TREATS AND VIRUSES WHICH CAN INSTALL ONTO YOUR COMPUTER WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. DISABLE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

  4. Download the Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) here and install it. (You may also have to set the OBMM as administrator as well if when you open it. So, just go ahead and do that after you download it just to be safe.)

  5. Download 7zip here and install it. (This is used to open the archives your downloaded files are in.)

  6. Download a mod you want to install (Follow this tutorial if you don't know how to download mods)

  7. OBMM-Installation: Once downloaded, move the archive (.rar, .zip or .rar) to a temporary folder. Open OBMM, and click "Create" in the bottom of the window. A new window will appear, called "omod creator". Click "Add archive", navigate to the temporary folder where you placed the archive, and double click it. (This may take a while, depending on how big the mod is). Once that is done, you can add a name to the mod, version number, and author in the text boxes in the omod creator. Once done, click "Create omod" at the bottom right of the window.
After it's done loading and decompressing a window will pop up and tell you it's done, just click OK. Now in the main OBMM window will be two parts on the left will show you where all your active mods are and the right will show you which mods you have installed and your active/inactive mods. You will see your mod in the right side with a green square. The green square means it's inactive. Click the mod to highlight it and press activate. The square should turn blue and appear in the left side of the window. Tick the checkbox next to the mod in the left list.

  8. Manual Installation: Once downloaded, open the archive (.rar, .zip or .rar) with 7zip (Should be automatically associated with archives), and click extract. Where to extract depends on the structure of the archive. Here's the most used formats:
If the archive contains one folder called "Data", extract it to your Oblivion folder, which, if you followed step one, should be C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion.
If the archive contains an .esp, and possibly other files/folders ("Meshes", "Textures", "Sound", etc.), extract it to your Data folder (C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data).
If the archive contains a folder named anything else, extract the files to a temporary folder, then copy all files and folders that are in the same folder as the .esp/.esm to your data folder (C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data).
Open OBMM; the mod you installed should now be listed in the left list. Tick the checkbox next to the mod.

  9. Now, click "Launch Oblivion" in OBMM, read the instructions that appears (You won't get far if you don't), and you're good to go!
