This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of downloading mods from Nexus Mods.

  1. Finding mods can be done in various ways, and all methods can be found in the 'Files" drop-down menu on the top of every site. From here you can browse the categories, browse new or newly updated files, browse the top files, use the advanced search, search by tags, or browse the Files of the Month.

  2. When you have found the mod you want to download, click it, and you will be brought to its file page.

  3. Once on the file page, read the description of the mod for what it does, install instructions, etc., then click the "Files" tab.

  4. You will now be presented with one or more files, categorized as 'Main files', 'Updates', 'Optional files', 'Old files' and 'miscellaneous'. Which file(s) to download varies from mod to mod, so be sure to read the installation instructions! Now you have two ways to download the file. You can either download it through NMM (Nexus Mod Manager), which is the recommended method, or you can download it manually.

    • Downloading through NMM: First, make sure NMM (Nexus Mod Manager) is installed. Once that is done, simple click the green 'Download With Manager' button on the file you want to download. This will open NMM (if it is not already open), and begin downloading the file from the server closest to you.

    • Manual download: Simply click the file name or the 'download manually' beside the NMM button. A window will open, where you can select the server you want to download from. Choose the one closest to you, and the download will start.

  5. You have now downloaded a mod. Congratulations! If you need any help installing the mod you just downloaded, check out the 'How to install mods' tutorial for Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Skyrim
