The Activity Points system is no longer in use.

Overview

Nexus sites are community-driven platforms that are fuelled by the activity of members on the sites. When you tag, comment on or upload a file or image, add an article, report bad posts or help other members you are actively helping improve and expand the Nexus sites for everyone.

The purpose of Activity Points

Each time you perform one of these actions on a Nexus site you'll gain "Activity points" (AP) so that other users of the site can see how much you have done on the Nexus sites. The more AP you accrue the higher your level on the sites will be.

At the moment AP and levels are just for show; they don't unlock any special features or secret sections of the site but who knows, maybe in the future your AP might be put to good use.

Actions that increase your AP

Some actions will provide you with AP and some actions won't. Here's a break-down of the AP giving actions. All points are rounded down. So if you have 10.2 AP it will only show as 10 AP.

In the file database

  • 0.01 AP per unique download up to a total of 20,000 unique downloads (200 points) on any file entry you have added to the site.

Note: this is per file entry, not per file upload i.e. a file entry with 10 files uploaded to it with over 20,000 unique downloads each will still be capped at 200 AP. Anything over 20,000 unique downloads will not garner additional points

  • 3 AP per file tag you have tagged that becomes approved (a file tag needs 3 members to tag a file for it to be approved). This only applies to the first three members who tag a file so if you approve a tag that's already been approved you don't get any AP. File owners will not receive AP for tagging their own files to avoid exploitation of the system.
  • 5 AP per File Of The Month vote. Once a month.

Posting on the forums or commenting on features on Nexus sites

  • 1 AP per post for the first 100 posts, then 0.1 AP per post afterwards i.e. someone with 10,000 posts will have 1,090 AP (100 x 1 + 9900 x 0.1)

In the articles database

  • 1 AP per thumbs up on articles you have written

In the image share databases (both normal and Supporter databases)

  • 0.2 AP per thumbs up on images you have uploaded. These points are tallied up based on all the ratings for all your uploaded images. So if you have two images, one with 4 thumbs and another with 2 thumbs then you will have 1.2 AP over all.

Good and bad actions The staff and moderators of the site can give and take AP from members of the site at their discretion. If a member continues to provide good help to others on the forums, or if they continually report controversial posts or files to the staff then they may receive additional AP from the staff for their efforts.

If members require their posts to be moderated, or warnings to be given for their actions then staff also have the ability to take AP away from members.

The AP that staff give to members is logged on their profile for all to see.

Time delays

Posting on the forums will not instantly increase your AP. A script runs every two hours to update the AP database and generate the rankings based on the updated totals.

Ranking

A simple ranking system is in place that determines where you rank against all the other members in terms of AP. If you share the same number of AP with one or more members then you will all have the same rank.

AP and levels

Gaining AP allows you to gain "levels" much like Experience (XP) works in RPG games. The more AP you have the higher your level will be. Here's a break-down of the levels and the AP required to reach them:

Level - AP required

  • 0 - 0
  • 1 - 1
  • 2 - 2
  • 3 - 5
  • 4 - 10
  • 5 - 15
  • 6 - 20
  • 7 - 25
  • 8 - 30
  • 9 - 35

  • 12 - 50
  • 13 - 60
  • 14 - 70
  • 15 - 80
  • 16 - 90
  • 17 - 100
  • 18 - 125
  • 19 - 150
  • 20 - 175
  • 21 - 200
